Despite its small size, Bhutan is a remarkable birding destination with around 770 recorded species and recognition as one of the world’s key endemic bird areas. From lush tropical forests to cool broadleaf woodlands and high Himalayan fir and spruce forests, the country offers extraordinary habitat diversity. With well-maintained roads across the kingdom, birding is rewarding almost anywhere below 3,100 meters, especially from late March to late May, and even simple roadside stops can reveal incredible sightings.
